Invisible Cities Project Plan
After completing my invisible cities thumbnail's, I decided to refer back to the brief to understand what I had completed so far and what I needed to do next. I put each task in order and added notes for what I could do for each one. By doing this it helped me to understand what needed to be done next, to ensure I finish the project in time for the deadline.
(6) Influence map for thumbnails ✓
(3) A minimum of 100 developmental thumbnails exploring all of Calvino's cities ✓
Pick the best one - I decided on Diomira, the city of domes. I felt like this city was developed the most when drawing my thumbnails. There are so many different things that I can think to do for both the interior and exterior of the city. As well as this, I also have to keep in mind that the city picked must be made into a 3D environment in the future. Diomira has interesting shapes which are not overly complicated, which I think will be easier to recreate in 3D.
(5) Research into your source material
Look at Diomira
Identify its technology to understand how developed it is. Think of location, what may be found there and understand why it is like it is. Draw examples of it and annotate buildings. Refer back to thumbnails
(8) Concept artist 'Who's who?'
Ralf Mcquarrie - Star Wars. The dome cities in the original films
Look at the techniques he uses. How he frames his drawings, what is the focus. What ideas can you use of his to inspire your own work.
