What If Metropolis? Finished Concept Art

Now that I had researched what types of stalls I wanted to be seen in the updated version of my  environment, the next thing was to draw it. I firstly cleared a space where the old stalls were. I then began drawing in lines to fit the perspective of the drawing. As previously mentioned I tried to draw things of interest that gives the viewer a reason to be excited to look at the drawing, rather than the same bland stall repeated. This time I could take advantage of the darker setting, to bring out the more interesting and colourful side to the city.

Once I got the drawing to a stage I was happy with, I then went over it, highlighting its lights and darkening its shadows. This is the same process I did for the main buildings, with me feeling more comfortable adding in the light as I had practised.

I am really happy with the results as I feel the night-time atmosphere really tells the cities story the way I wanted it to in the previous concept. The image is now a lot more intriguing and has you wondering what sort of city is this. The colours drag you in and guide you around ALL of the drawing now and not just the middle part. Before I didn't find myself really looking at the right side of the drawing as it felt like their wasn't much going on. However now you can see a lively market with big lights, directing your eyes to see what's going on. It adds the feeling of the
bustling city I was going for and overall improves the quality of the drawing.

Here is the drawing process documenting all of the changes made to the original piece
