From Script To Screen Project: Investigation Into Magicians

 For my story it is best to firstly identify who the main character is, what their motivation is and their backstory. This will give  me a clear guide of what sort of story to make as the main character drives the plot of the story. 

To begin I want to firstly look into what a magician actually is. A magician is someone who wields magic, below I have listed the many different forms this magic comes in.

  • Black art illusionist
  • Mechanical magician

  • Pantomime magician
  • Quick change magician

Throughout the ages magicians have been a form of entertainment. They inspire wonder, imagination and escapism. They push the limits to what seems to be physically possible for a single human and perform in sometime enormous crowds. They have to have their act down to a T otherwise they will either be looked at as a phoney or even risk their own safety, through daring means. 

Below I have investigated a range of different magicians, old and new to see how their performances differ and to understand how they manage to capture the minds of many. 


David Blaine

Originally just doing elaborate card tricks, he is now mainly know for his over-the-top stunts which test the limits of the human body. Some of his most famous stunts include levitating, holding breathe for 17 mins, standing in a block of ice for 63 hours and regurgitating live frogs. Now some question his magical ability, however it cannot be argued that he trains his body to perform his daring stunts in an amazing way and entertains others while doing it. 


Harry Houdini

One of the most famous names when referring to magicians in the modern day, Harry Houdini began his tricks in the 1890's. He his known mainly for his specialized skill in escapology in which he claimed to be able to escape from any jail. He travelled the world preforming daring stunts which are still talked about to this day. 


Dynamo

Dynamo is a British magician who uses illusions and slight of hand to trick those on the streets. He is responsible for most peoples interaction with magic in the modern day and has proven its ability to continue to captivate the minds of many.

  Reflective Statement For Major Project Overall I am really pleased with the outcome of the animation. This is mainly due to me feeling that I was able to include everything I set out to do, all the way from the beginning of Premise. It has been a very long process, with different routes taken in order to bring me to the final product. At times I felt I had set myself a far too large goal to achieve and was unsure that I was able to complete the project within the timeframe. From Script To Screen: Investigating How Shutter Island Tricks The Audience

 In order to understand how to portray my character in a more believable way, I decided to look at similar stories in which the character is an unreliable narrator. A prime example of this is the film Shutter Island.  Shutter Island Plot Summary The film is centred around detective Teddy Daniels as he investigates the mysterious Shutter Island in order to locate a missing patient, Rachel Solando. Teddy is trying to deal with the murder of his wife and has reason to believe Andrew Ladus is on the island as well, the man who murdered her. As the film progresses so does the mystery of not only the missing patient but also the island itself. As Teddy continues his investigation he becomes more and more suspicious of those around him, to the point in which he turns out of control in an attempt to escape their capture. The film ends with the realization that Teddy and Andrew are one in the same and Teddy was submitted to the institute after murdering his wife. The guilt from his time served

Character Bible: Elliot Goh

  Main Characters Man from future  Names for character: Elliot Goh (E.GO)      Man is vain and has a lot of money. For this reason, I feel like he would spend a large amount of his money on himself. This could be by purchasing expensive accessories and clothing as well as spending it on his physical appearance (tattoos, Botox and hair transplant). His deepest desire is to be looked upon as a god, which is how he views the superhero who is protecting his city. He is very envious of the hero as he knows no matter how much money he has he will never be able to compete with the supernatural. His jealousy has corrupted his thoughts and he begins obsessing over the origin of the hero.
