Toolkit 2: Modelling Jetpack Jones - UV Mapping The Head

Today I UV'ed the model starting with the head. This was done by firstly cutting the head Uv in half and separating the throat from the head.

Had to break up nose piece in order to ensure an even distribution of uv’s. This occurs on the character as he has a big nose and I will need to be careful not to paint over the seam when texturing. This issue sometimes occurs on characters with ears.

In order to make sure the uv were accurate, I deleted half the model and then re-mirrored it. I then took the uv’s from the new side of the model and flipped them, before stitching the two centre lines together.

Next was the eye uv. This was easy enough to do as they are just spheres. To speed up the process I deleted one of the eyes an uv just one. Once the eye had been cut down the centre it was duplicated again.

As the eyebrows are going to have a basic texture, they were simply turned into planar and then unfolded.

The head was easy enough to Uv and I now have to move on to the body.
